Contesting the FG Dáil Convention
I have decided to allow my name go before our forthcoming convention to select candidates for the next General Election.
Fine Gael needs to be very ambitious if we are to deliver the change that the people of Ireland are demanding and I am offering myself as the candidate who can articulate the very real concerns and fears of the people of Cork South Central. Let nobody be in any doubt, Fine Gael must aim to win three seats in Cork South Central at the forthcoming election and I want to play my part in doing that.
I succeeded Deirdre Clune TD onto Cork City Council in 2007 and was humbled last year when the people of the South East ward recognised the work I had done on their behalf, by electing me on the first count in the Local Elections. To follow this up with an absolutely life changing experience by spending a year as Deputy Lord Mayor of our great City was an honour that will remain with me forever.
As you may know, I am currently Chair of the Ballinlough Community Association; Treasurer of St Michael’s Gaelic Football Club, Blackrock and I serve on the Boards of Management of both Douglas Community School and Nagle Community School amongst various other committees. I am deeply involved in the Cork Community.
I hope that my entry into this contest will generate a real debate about the kind of country we want to create in the next decade. I come from a tradition of public service, from people who are disgusted that this Fianna Fail Government has bankrupted our birthright as Irish citizens. Politics is not only about addressing the challenges of today but about shaping the society that we would like to be living in the next 20 or 30 years. We need to begin this work today and with your support; I would like to see it through long into the future.
We need change. We need a diverse selection of voices in Dáil Éireann. I hope Fine Gael will allow me to be one of those voices.
