The Jack Lynch Tunnel is due to close for three nights from January 13th to 16th, 2010, for overnight maintenance. The tunnel will be open to traffic as normal between 7am and 8pm on these days.
A section of the South Ring Road (N25) between Dunkettle Interchange and Mahon Interchange, including the Jack Lynch Tunnel and Tunnel Management Building /Little Island access road, will be closed to normal traffic overnight for three successive nights as follows:
- 20.00hrs on Wednesday, 13th Jan 2010 until 07.00hrs on Thursday, 14th Jan 2010
- 20.00hrs on Thursday, 14th Jan 2010 until 07.00 hrs on Friday, 15th Jan 2010
- 20.00hrs on Friday, 15th Jan 2010 until 07.00 hrs on Saturday, 16th Jan 2010
These closures are necessary to facilitate scheduled routine maintenance on the tunnel and its equipment. Cork City Council regrets any inconvenience that may occur. In between these overnight closures, i.e. during the day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the N25 including the Tunnel and its approach roads will be open to traffic as normal.
Alternative traffic routes are available via the city centre during the periods of closure as follows:
- On the North side of the river, Southbound traffic should travel from the Dunkettle Interchange to the City Centre via the Tivoli dual carriageway and Lower Glanmire Road (N8), and then follow signs for the South Ring (N25) via the South City Link Road (N27).
- On the Southern approaches to the Tunnel, Northbound traffic should travel via the Kinsale Road Roundabout to the City Centre via the South City Link Road (N27), and then follow signs for Dublin (N8) and Waterford (N25) via Lower Glanmire Road.
