Just received a call from Gerry O’Beirne Director of Water Services in City Hall to say that the water at the Lee Road Water works has received the all clear from the HSE.
The boil water notice on the north side of the City will be lifted tonight. Within an hour the treatment plant at the Lee Road will start supplying water again to the City Centre Island (temporarily being supplied from Tivoli) and the South side of the City (temporarily being supplied from county council through a pipe in Tesco Douglas)
It will take up to 12 hours for the pressure to being built up in the system and for the water to work across the grid, but we are confident that the majority of houses will return to normal supply tomorrow morning
People may experience some fluctuation in pressure as the changeover occurs and discolouration due to silt, so be careful washing clothes etc.
Also there is a possibility of burst mains as the pressure increases through the system, but as has been the case of the last two weeks, staff will be on call 24hours to deal with any difficulties that arise.
Many thanks for your patience and tolerance over the last thirteen days. The last week has shown the true spirit of the Cork people. We may love a challenge but when faced with a crisis nobody stands idly by. The whole community comes together and works as one to deal with it.
Equally, we should all remember the work done by council staff, the emergency services and ordinary people all over the city and think twice before we criticize them. When we needed them, there were there for us.

well done laura thanks for all the up dates and i agree full praise to everyone involved in getting the water to the city

Well, the water’s gone again. Living across from Cork Constitution, about 5 metres from the resevoir, and the pressure’s down to a dribble from the main cold tap, and no pressure to reach the upstairs shower/tanks/etc.
Going to be another fun few days of living Ethiopian style.
