Flooding Emergency – Water Supplies & Traffic Diversions
The following is the current information on Water Supplies and Traffic Diversions resulting from the recent flooding.
Water Supplies
Water supplies have been disrupted in a number of areas. Water tankers to provide an emergency supply are located in:
- Ballyvolane Shopping Centre
- Blackpool Shopping Centre
- Hollyhill Shopping Centre
- St. Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital, Gurranabraher
- Nemo Rangers GAA, South Douglas Road
People are asked to bring their own containers and if you are unsure that your container is clean, the water should be boiled before use.
Hydrant Stand Pipes are also in place in the following areas:
- Musgrave Park (Entrance), Pearse Road, Ballyphehane
- Ardmahon Estate, Ballinlough
- Junction Togher Road / Clashduv Road
- Sandymount Drive, Summerstown Grove, Glasheen
- Mardyke (opp. UCC Sports Complex)
Caution : Householders in affected areas should exercise caution in the use of heating systems and electrical compliances e.g. washing machines.
Road Closures
Due to flooding in the Victoria Cross area the following temporary closures are also in place:
Ø Western Road westwards from Donovan’s Road
Ø Wilton Road from Dennehy’s Cross to Victoria Cross
Work is continuing to relieve flooding and roads are expected to open later today. More details to follow
Carrigrohane Road and Grenville Place are permanently closed until further notice.
The section of roadway between the traffic lights at the end of Carrigrohane Road and the Angler’s Rest is permanently closed due to road collapse.
An Garda Síochána advise motorists to drive carefully and to remain aware of storm debris on road carriageways
