2009 is The United Nations International Year of astronomy. It is a global celebration of astronomy and its contributions to society and culture. Blackrock Castle Observatory will be both organising and participating in a number of events throughout the year to celebrate it.
During the year Blackrock Castle will aim to stimulate interest, especially among young people, in astronomy heritage under the central theme “Cosmos at the Castle”.
Plans for 2009 include participation in the St Patrick’s Day Parade, Film Festival, Midsummer Festival, Jazz Festival and Electric Picnic, to name but a few.
This year is also the four hundredth anniversary of James 1st returning Blackrock Castle to Cork City.
