Class Sizes Petition to the Minister
I along with Emmet O’Halloran and David O’Byrne, both Fine Gael candidates in the local election we have established an online petition to call on the Taoiseach, The Minister of Finance and The Minister for Education to reverse their decision to increase class sizes in primary education in Ireland.
Primary school class sizes in Ireland are already among the largest in Europe, according to an OECD report in September. Plans outlined in last week’s budget would see 1,000 teaching posts taken out of the primary system. Three schools in our own local areas have already lost teachers this year (Scoil Barra Naofa Buachailli,Beaumont, Scoil Chríost Rí boys‘ Primary, Turners Cross and St Columba’s Boys National School, Douglas). We don’t want to see this trend continue.
We are asking that you pass this email along to as many people as possible in a bid to get them to sign the petition. We need as many signatures as possible.
