Time Extension Granted to Harbour CAT Ferries Applications

Harbour CAT Ferries, the proposed developers of the river taxi service, have been granted an Extension of Time in relation to two planning applications they recently submitted, one on the Marina and one for Horgan’s Quay (TP 08/32790 & 08/32789)

The Planning application for the Marina is sought to construct a passenger ferry landing station (120m East of Centre Park Road/ The Marina Junction). The facility will comprise six pontoons with two shelters and two access gang ways two bridgeways and bridges, six digital information/ advertising boards, two bicycle stalls, and all associated site works. The total area proposal is 2572m2.

At Horgan’s quay, planning is sought to construct a passenger ferry landing station. The facility will comprise one pontoon with shelter and access gangway and bridgehead, digital information/advertising boards, bicycle stall, footpath access and all associated site works.

An Extension of Time on a planning application can be sought for a number of reasons, and I have not been made aware of the reasoning behind this extension

It is interesting to note that in the preplanning meeting that the applicants had with the City Planners, that a number of issues were of concern including:

· The need to ensure legal title before application.

· The impact of car parking

· Affect on visual amenities

· Potential loss of green space and associated issues for users of the green space

· Potential impact on the free flow of traffic on Horgan’s Quay

The planners said they would strongly oppose the proposed building and associated commercial floorspace given the intended location on a future amenity as per the City development plan.

The Extension has been granted until 19 September 2008
