Parking Disc Zone Extentions
Cork City Council intends to extend the ‘Disc Parking Zones’ (DPZ) within the city to help alleviate problems associated with commuter/student parking and the nuisance of “outsider parking” and to improve the environment in local residential areas. The main areas affected are those west of CUH and areas adjacent to CIT, although there are areas in all sections of the City that are affected.
However areas in the South East ward that will be included in this extension are:
Loretto Park; Ashdale Park; Rosebank; Knockrea Park; Pic du Jur Park; Pic du Jur Drive; Woolhara Park; and Knockrea.
The scheme will be implemented in stages because of the large amount of resources required in implementing the controls. These include:
• Consultation with local residents and the Gardaí
• Drawing up of parking schedules
• Installing the controls on the ground.
• Enforcing the new parking controls in areas outside the City Centre.
Experience to-date has proved it to be very positive for local communities. However residents should be aware that if they feel there is no need for parking controls in their area and this is the consensus of the local residents, then Disc Parking Zones will not be ‘imposed’ on them.
